INDEPENDENT TEACHING EXPERIENCE
Ivan Malcolm is a Music Teacher who specializes in Music Theory and Composition, Drumset Instruction, and Directing Modern Bands/Jazz Ensemble. His teaching experience spans K-12, University Instruction, Private lessons and Tutoring. He strives to make music theory more accessible to all by developing instruction that brings the excitement of music theory into the modern day in ways that appeal to the next generations.

K-12 TEACHING
During his undergrad at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Ivan did 40-hour per semester observations, throughout different public schools in and around the Geneva area, leading up to an entire semester of student teaching. Ivan conducted the Highschool concert band at Penn Yan Academy as well as taught music theory classes. He also taught general music at North Street Elementary and served as aid to their choir director.

UNIVERSITY TEACHING
At Syracuse University's Setnor School of Music, Ivan served as a teaching assistant for Theory and Musicianship courses I-IV. As a TA primarily he supported the appointed instructor but he has also taught classes on various music theory concepts and also tutored students one-on-one.

DRUMSET INSTRUCTION
Ivan has given drumset lessons to college students during his undergrad and also to young musicians in his church interested in playing for church services.

BAND DIRECTION
At Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Ivan unofficially served as a Teaching Assistant for the colleges' Jazz Ensemble for the Spring 22 semester. He primarily served as the drummer but would assist the appointed instructor as well as led rehearsals in his absence. He also served as co-founder/director of a student-led combo that was often hired by the colleges' and business/organizations in and around the geneva community. At Setnor, Ivan was also relied on at times to lead rehearsal for the jazz/funk combo in the director's absence.
